The EV revolution could be about to hit full throttle! A battery start-up has unveiled plans to mass produce a ground-breaking battery that could give EVs a range of a whopping 1,000 kilometres – that’s like going from here to the moon and back… twice! Well, maybe not exactly, but you get the idea.
China’s Gotion High Tech, known for supplying batteries to Volkswagen, claim the first production units will hit their assembly line in 2024. This lithium-manganese-iron-phosphate (LMFP) wonder cell has already passed all safety tests and boasts a life cycle of 4,000 charge-discharge cycles. That’s enough to power your everyday electric car for many years.

As usual, festivalgoers were treated to thrilling hill climb runs, as is becoming more common now, undertaken by the fastest electric cars on the planet as well as their ICE cousins. Crowds felt the rush as these whisper-quiet speed demons raced up the famous Goodwood hill, leaving a trail of astonishment in their wake. The only EV to make the top 10 this year was the Rimac Nevera, but astonishingly, this is a production EV and its 49.32-second time was only 4 seconds behind the winning car, and it costs half what the winner does. Other EVs have set faster times in previous years, for example last year’s winner – The McMurtry Speirling (setting the overall course record in 39.08 BRISK seconds!).
But it’s not all about the competition. The festival also offers you the chance to get up close and personal with the latest EV models from top manufacturers. Who knows, you might just find yourself falling head over heels for the future of mobility.
